While we don’t know exactly what the father said, you can imagine his surprise when his young daughter told him she’d seen the ghost of a woman who has been dead for decades . Perhaps they didn’t stay at The Marshall House for too much longer. Some guests have reported seeing friendly ghosts at the Marshall House.
From the Usual Hotels
Breakfast was delicious and the location was close to everything. At the sight of the old operating room, guests have seen doctors treating soldiers who have been recently brought in from the battlefield. Some have made claims that they have felt a presence holding onto their wrist, as a nurse would do to feel for someone's pulse. The boy's mother quickly went to look in the bathroom, and didn't see the boy of whom her son spoke of, but when she looked at her son's arm, she found that there was a bite mark.
Unique Rooms & Suites
We loved the fact that there were historical drawings, photos and artifacts affixed to the walls throughout the hotel, with the option to take a self-guided tour by scanning a QR code for the exhibits. Built in 1851, this charming 68-room property housed Union soldiers during the Civil War -- and some guests say their spirits still walk the hallways. However, this upper-middle-range property has some of the drawbacks common to old buildings, such as noise issues, small rooms and bathrooms, and few amenities. Don’t miss the 45 Bistro, which offers a seasonal menu and an extensive wine list.

This privately owned and managed restaurant located in The Marshall House, an historic Savannah inn , offers a unique venue for a variety of private events and public dining. The entire building was completely renovated in 1999 reestablishing the facility to its former grandeur. Originally built in 1852 the space offers three private rooms handling events from six people to over two hundred fifty. After the hotel renovations unearthed the bones from the the Civil War soldiers, the remains were cleared, but the paranormal energy continues to exist. Guest have reported numerous accounts of the ghosts of amputee soldiers who walk vacantly and aimlessly throughout the hotel. One of these departed souls has been seen in the hotel's lobby with his missing arm in hand, pleading with the guests to help him find a surgeon.
The hotel was beautiful and very clean. The nightly wine and cheese hours with entertainment were terrific. We liked the fact that there was always complimentary cold bottles of water and a coffee and tea station in the lobby.
During the Civil War, The Marshall House was occupied by the Union and used as a hospital until the end of the war. It was also used twice more as a hospital during the yellow fever epidemics of the 19th century, and many believe ghosts still roam the 165-year-old structure. When the hotel was restored in the late 1990s, workers were replacing some damaged floorboards downstairs when they found human remains. The Marshall House Hotel on Broughton Street is one of the oldest hotels in Savannah, Georgia, and with that distinction comes a colorful past filled with enchanting charm. The Marshall House has retained some of the original architectural features, such as the beautiful brick walls and glamorous staircase.
We liked the spacious one bedroom suite with view to an internal court where breakfast was served. Classical ambience with luxury details. Historic hotel with good and comfortble reception. Bottles of water, coffee and tea were complimentary, as well as a drink every evening. Featuring original floors and doors, tall ceilings and interesting architectural quirks, the guest rooms at The Marshall House are the perfect complement to a day touring historic downtown Savannah.
